Following the arrival of the Company and its allies in the Misty Mountains it wasn't long until the goblins of the mountains and the orcs of Gundabad learned of them. After a long and terrible battle the Alliance was routed. The elves and men who managed to flee were scattered and hunted. A small few managed to find their way back to Rivendell and rally themselves as best they could. All hope of returning to Gondor seemed to be lost...
